“I started The Culture Matters Children’s Cooking Class because I saw a real need in my community—and beyond—for opportunities to learn about healthier eating habits, cultural traditions, and global cuisines. I wanted to make learning fun by weaving in STEM concepts and financial literacy.
When I got to high school, there were funding cuts in my school district which meant I never got the chance to take Home Economics. I had always looked forward to the cooking class, so I thought—why not build the kind of curriculum my younger self would have loved?
I partnered with Gottagetit because our values aligned, and they were already delivering quality youth programming. In 2024, we launched—and the program has been growing ever since.”
